An elegant circa 1930s gold-plated snake necklace featuring two finely modeled serpent heads emerging from an intertwined, supple snake chain.

The double-headed, intertwined form carries a deeply romantic symbolism often associated with Victorian and later jewelry: two hearts bound together, enduring devotion, and a promise to remain together through every circumstance. The two serpents may be read as lovers protecting one another and moving forward side by side, giving the design a strong sense of commitment and fidelity.

Because the snake sheds its skin, it has long symbolized regeneration, healing, renewal, and eternal youth in ancient Egyptian and Greek traditions. The intertwined pair also recalls the classical caduceus—the staff with two serpents entwined around it—evoking balance between complementary forces, harmony, and strength.

In ancient Roman culture, the snake was also associated with household protection and guardian spirits. A pair of serpents suggests doubled good fortune, protection from misfortune, prosperity, and the continuous renewal of life.

The necklace is formed from a flexible, finely textured snake chain that sits beautifully around the neckline. The overall length is adjustable from approximately 42 to 48 cm, allowing it to be worn at different positions and making it very flattering on the body.

Condition: Overall very good for its age, with the gold-plated finish and sculptural details well preserved. One end ring appears to have been replaced at a later date, as its color is noticeably more golden than the rest of the necklace. This is reflected in the photographs.
